December: “Life as we know it.”

Standard

Here is a quick photo update of December. ¬†I don’t believe I posted any photos during December, so I am sure you all will love the picture overload! ūüôā

Another photo of my homeless girl. ¬†She pooped out while at the gym and so we borrowed some 3 month pants and a 6 month sweater to get her home. ¬†Poor little lamb! ūüôā

These are {some of } my darling Young Women in front of the temple after Baptisms for the dead last month.  I LOVE THEM!

I was trying to see if she was awake in the car one day.  She gave me this darling grin.

Bekkett got this funny Shrek headband in a kids meal MONTHS ago and it has been shoved in the pocket of the seat in the car ever since and he finally found it this day. From that day on, he kept asking for his headband.  Haha!

Christmas Shenanigans.

Standard

OK, so I know I am about a month late, but better late than never, right? ¬†I just wanted to go through December and share some of our Christmas highlights, so that y’all can see what a wonderful holiday we had. ¬†We were truly blessed and can’t express how grateful we are to our Heavenly Father for the blessings and miracles that He continually shows us, on a daily basis. ¬†

First of all, as soon as Greg got off of the trail for his last shift, Christmas began.  Our elf, Athab, showed up and got into some shenanigans and Bekkett loved it.

Image
This is Athab rappelling so that he could decorate the kids doors to look like snowmen.

Image
The first weekend in December, we went down to the temple so that I could help in the baptistry while the youth did baptisms for the dead and then we were going to go to the Riverbanks Zoo while we were there.  Bekkett was so excited to go to the zoo, and then it got super cold and started pouring rain right as it was time to go.  So, Athab brought the zoo to our house, instead.

ImageImage
Desi also loved destroying the zoo.  {Surprise!}

Image

One of the days, we took time to make our gingerbread houses.

ImageImageImage

Athab came to worship the baby Jesus, as well.

Image

Of course, The Grinch was a LARGE part of our holiday! ūüôā ¬†Bekkett loves The Grinch almost as much as I do! ¬†One thing that is funny is that Bekkett hasn’t really loved brushing his teeth, but during Christmas, I asked him if he would like the grinch to help him brush his teeth and he has brushed pretty much every day since then. ¬†Today, he even let me brush his teeth without the grinch there. ¬†It is so funny what kids will do.

Homemade divinity and pecan roll.  YUM!  Need I say more?

There was a HUGE light show at the WNC fairgrounds, but it was $20 PER CAR!  Outrageous!  So, we decided to go with a smaller one at Lake Julian(right by our house) and we loved it!  $5 per car and I think we went around it 3 times, or so.

Image

Grove Park Inn hosts the National Gingerbread competition every year and it is one of the most amazing buildings I have ever been in. ¬†The architecture is just rustic and beautiful and I think I said, “My mom and dad would DIE if they saw this place”, probably 10 times! ¬†The hearth was as tall as I was, the rocks were 3-4 feet tall, and everything about it was glamorous! ¬†Such a fun experience for our little family!

Image

This was the winning “gingerbread house.” ¬†It was pretty amazing, but I won’t lie, I thought that there were better ones that were actually a HOUSE and Christmas themed. ¬†Nonetheless, it was pretty cute.

Image
The opening of THIS fire, was at least as tall as me, and probably 10 feet wide.  That wreath was probably 6-7 feet wide.  It was incredible!

Image

I know Desi looks like a homeless child in that outfit….good thing she is adorable! ūüėČ ¬†Such a fun night as a family. ¬†I think that was on the 23rd. ¬†All of our activities we did as a family will be forever remembered by our first Christmas away from home. ¬†My heart just overflows as I go through these pictures all over again. ¬†I am so grateful for my little family and how they are my WORLD! ¬†I am so blessed to call them mine! ¬†MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Busy, busy, busy…

Standard

It seems like time just runs away from me. ¬†And I hate it. ¬†I wish I had been better, since Christmas, at blogging, but that’s ok. ¬†This week is a {catch up week} so hopefully I can get some things in my own home taken care of. ¬†

The past few weeks it seems like life has just been unstoppable. ¬†I have been working hard, grateful that I have many positions that I can have my kids by my side. ¬†No matter how hard it can be at times, I wouldn’t have it any other way. ¬†

I feel like every year, January comes around and I think that life is going to slow down, and then it doesn’t. ¬†And that is ok. ¬†I am grateful for a week of {not much planned} so that I can catch up. {INCLUDING MY BLOG} ¬†I am going to put all of my photos on my computer tonight so that one day this week {hopefully} I can put up some great Christmas posts and a couple after Christmas posts. ¬†

I look forward to it, too! ūüôā ¬†See you soon!

Naps.

Standard

Very rarely do I take naps. ¬†No matter how tired I am, there is always just something else to be done, i.e. Norwex stuff, working one of my other 3 jobs from home, crafting(rarely), etc. ¬†So, I just don’t do it. ¬†Sunday, Greg and I decided to lay down for a nap just after the kids went down. ¬†I was STOKED, because not only do I rarely take naps on week days, Greg doesn’t usually like taking naps, so we hardly ever lay down for naps on weekends either. ¬†Needless to say, I was super excited.

I was sleeping really well when all of a sudden, I heard Bekket. ¬†I looked at the clock and he hadn’t even slept an hour. ¬†Immediately, 100 things started running through my head, “He needs to sleep. ¬†He isn’t feeling well. ¬†He better not wake up Des. ¬†All I wanted was a long winter’s nap today. ¬†WHY?…..” ¬†So of course, when I went into his room, I put him back down, tucked him in and told him to go back to sleep. ¬†

I just got settled back into bed and I hear him again, LOUD AND CLEAR this time. ¬†I walked in and he knew I was fuming(unfortunately), but for the most part, I just didn’t want him to wake up Des. ¬†So, as he was crying, I finally just decided to snuggle him up and rock him to try and calm him down. ¬†He quickly calmed down and by then I was already awake. ¬†Even though I thought he needed more sleep, I just decided that it could be some good one-on-one time, so I picked him up and we went downstairs to snuggle on the lovesac and watch The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh together. ¬†Shortly after we got snuggled in, daddy joined us. ¬†He said he was getting jealous of us, so he came and joined. ¬†

We watched Pooh together, but in the middle, Bekkett needed a drink, so we all went into the kitchen and prepared a tea party. ¬†Tea of choice: egg nog. ¬†Crumpets: ritz crackers. ¬†Cut up summer sausage and cheese to put on our “crumpets.” ¬†It was quite the delightful tea party. ¬†What a flipping cute boy. ¬†

Speaking of tea parties, we were at the gym the other day and when I went to pick the kids up from the day care, Bekkett was wearing a pink, velvet ballerina dress.  The ladies told me that he and some of the other boys were having a tea party together.  SO CUTE!  Yesterday I went to pick him up again, and once again, he had on the pink ballerina dress.  What a cute little stink.

Anyways, so the point of this post is that sometimes(or rarely) things go according to plan, or are ideal, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t choose to make a good thing out of it. ¬†It is most definitely a decision, and a hard ¬†one, most days, but life is so much more enjoyable when I choose to find JOY, instead of being ornery that Bekkett woke me up from my nap! ūüėČ

Promises.

Standard

Yesterday, while babysitting for a friend, her boys weren’t feeling too hot, so they sat watching a movie while I had the {choice} opportunity of perusing Facebook when I came across THIS article. ¬†What a wonderful blessing for me to recount the blessings that are recipients of the promises that God has made with me. ¬†

Over the last 7 months, we have had many learning and growing experiences.  Greg and I both felt right about moving our family out here, and as we have been stretched and pulled and pushed and prodded, they truly have been some of the most trying times of our married life.  Although trying, it is incredible to me that throughout these months, I have felt the closest to my Heavenly Father, and through these situations, we are encouraged to have a closer relationship with Him.

We have made covenants with our Heavenly Father. ¬†A covenant, as I understand it, is a 3 way promise between us and Heavenly Father. ¬†The Lord has promised us blessings if we keep the promise we made with Him. ¬†And I won’t lie, I have had to come to realizations that the blessings that the Lord decides to send us aren’t always the ones that we expect, or the blessings that would make our lives more convenient. ¬†THIS talk has helped me come to that realization.

But, there definitely comes a time when I feel like I can’t be stretched anymore. ¬†At those times, I am truly grateful that the Lord shows His hand in my life, as if to wrap me up in the arms of His love and whispers to me, “My child, I knew you could make it. ¬†Trust Me, I am molding you.” ¬†And I truly feel Him molding our life. ¬†His promises are sure!

-M.

HERE is another talk I am going to study concerning His promises.
